Israel's bombing of Iranian targets inside Syria has been intensified following the U.S. air strike on pro-Assad forces in early February that killed dozens of Russian military personnel in Deir Ezzor province. Some 50 positions were attacked, according to military information disseminated.

Israel has vowed to prevent Iran from entrenching itself there and has targeted, or is believed to have targeted, Iranian assets and positions, increasingly in recent months.

Eight members of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards force and several other non-Syrian nationals were among those killed, it said.

Amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, a return to assassinations and overseas attacks can not be ruled out.
