Tom Brokaw Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations, Attacks Accuser

The Post said neither woman reported their allegations to NBC at the time.

Savannah Guthrie anchored tonight's newscast, filling in for Lester Holt, with Kate Snow reporting on their longtime colleague.

The Morning Joe co-host joined Rachel Maddow, Andrea Mitchell, and more than 60 other women who now or formerly worked at NBC News, who have put their names on the document.

NBC News chairman Andy Lack said in a letter to staff yesterday: "We take allegations such as these very seriously, and act on them quickly and decisively when the facts dictate".

In the letter, sent Friday, current and former colleagues of the NBC News special correspondent write that "Tom has treated each of us with fairness and respect". She said that a female staff member approached her about Lauer's actions and needed help in dealing with him, saying, "She was afraid of losing her job".

In response, Vester's lawyer, Ari Wilkenfeld, said she stands by her allegations, "which speak for themselves".

Brokaw, now 78, denied any wrongdoing in statements provided to the Post and Variety.

She told Variety that despite not being at fault, she "suffered years of humiliation and isolation" from the incidents.

"I felt trapped, because it wasn't a request", she described.

According to reports by the Washington Post and Variety, Vester was in her 20s when veteran newsman Brokaw reportedly made the advances.

Vester worked for NBC from 1989 until 1999, when she left to work for Fox News.

After Today show host Matt Lauer was sacked past year, Lack said at the time that an internal review was underway to determine "what happened and what we can do to build a culture of greater transparency, openness and respect for each other".

An NBC spokesman told The Washington Post there is no record of Curry's complaint and it was not noted in Lauer's personnel file.

As for the hotel room visit, Brokaw said "I should not have gone but I emphatically did not verbally and physically attack her and suggest an affair in language right out of pulp fiction". He notes that her contract was not renewed, a detail Vester also shared with The Post.

In the letter, Brokaw said "I am not a flawless person".

In an interview with "CBS This Morning" in January, Curry said "verbal sexual harassment" was pervasive at the "Today" show. She told the Post Brokaw put her hands against his chest, pulled her closer and then invited her to later come to his office. He also added that an internal review launched by NBC Universal in the wake of Matt Lauer's firing was nearing its conclusion and that he could share findings with employees "as soon as next week".
