Seven killed during riot at SC prison

The maximum-security facility in Bishopville houses about 1,500 inmates, some of South Carolina's most violent and longest-serving offenders.

Those findings are detailed in two documents, an accountability report issued by the South Carolina Department of Corrections in September, and a separate mediator's report from December that tracks how well the state agency is complying with a mental health lawsuit settlement.

7 inmates are dead and 17 inmates are being treated after an incident at Lee Correctional Institution in SC.

Of South Carolina's nine all-male, maximum-security prisons, Lee Correctional Institution is the largest.

At 6:35 a.m. Monday, SCDC said the incident started at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday and it involved multiple inmate-on-inmate altercations in three housing units. "We always want more".

The state Department of Corrections also identified the inmates as Raymond Angelo Scott, Michael Milledge, Damonte Marquez Rivera, Eddie Casey Jay Gaskins, Joshua Svwin Jenkins, Corey Scott, and Cornelius Quantral McClary.

He said no officers were wounded.

No additional details were immediately provided on the cause of the incident at the prison. The pilot program was found to be successful, so it was expanded to offer scheduled overtime to more officers, the Department of Corrections said.

Lee Correctional Institution is located in the Town of Bishopville in Lee County, and is a Level 3 facility, meaning it houses some of the most violent offenders in the SC prison system.
