Pep Guardiola reveals next season's plans for Manchester City legend David Silva

Those events has prompted its manager Pep Guardiola to make the extraordinary suggestion that City could suffer a stunning title collapse on the domestic front ahead of the match against Tottenham Hotspur. As soon as Chris Smalling's well-timed finish struck the back of Ederson's goal last Saturday to give United a 3-2 lead, numerous home fans at the Etihad Stadium turned to each other and lamented their collapse.

Unless Manchester City can convince Chelsea FC to part with their star player, Sport goes on to suggest that AS Monaco forward Thomas Lemar could be a second-choice target for the Citizens.

Guardiola seems to have caught the bug. "That has happened. We have to try to focus on our games".

One of those losses came to the Red Devils in the top flight last weekend, denying City the chance to win the title in a record time, and Guardiola is not yet prepared to start the celebrations as his side would not be the first to slip up from a seemingly unassailable position.

"I am not the most calm, because that is not the right word, because we were so close against United at home, but it's the fact that since November or December we are already champions".

Liverpool saw off City in the CL quarters.

"He played the last 10 to 15 minutes and after the game said he had a lot of pain and could not run", Guardiola added. But it doesn't depend on the United result, it's in our hands, it's up to us to win our games, and we are able to win [the] two games [needed]. "We have 14 players plus the kids". Now their task is to register five points from the remaining six games.

With a ten point lead over Chelsea in fifth, a game in hand against Liverpool, and a favorable run-in, they don't NEED to beat City to qualify for the Champions League next season.

City are in the midst of a really concerning run of form, having lost their last three games, and Guardiola will be keen for his side to bounce back immediately with a win against Spurs tomorrow.

"In football it can happen, of course it can, I assure you", said Guardiola when asked if City could yet feel the pressure of a challenge from United.

"We have to do it tomorrow".

"Of course it can happen".

The half past 5 kick off takes place at Anfield, where Liverpool will look to carry the momentum of their Champions League win over Man City into their game against Bournemouth.
