Mary Kom claims gold on CWG debut

Indian athletes clinched as many as eight gold medals on the penultimate day of the 21 Commonwealth Games (CWG) being held in Gold Coast in Australia.

Jamaica's women defended their Commonwealth Games 4x400m relay gold as the team of Christine Day, Anastasia Le-Roy, Janieve Russell and Stephenie McPherson finished with a time of three minutes and 24 seconds.

O'Hara definitely had a few inches on Mary Kom and her advantage was felt in the first round, where despite Mary's successful attempts at connecting her, the Indian had to be at the receiving end of some fierce blows.

India is now at the third position in the medal's tally.

This is because needles were found in their room at the Commonwealth Games village on the Gold Coast in Australia - and there is a strict "No Needles" policy.

"For me the highlight was the first match against England, the last two minutes and we'd hoped it was also possible now, but that's too bad".

However, the 19-year-old Naman lost to crowd favorite Jason Whateley in another exciting contest in the heavyweight 91kg category. Solanki won a tough, fast paced, tactical battle by a split 4:1 verdict against the impressive Brendan Irvine of Northern Ireland in the final. He won a gold medal at the 2004 World Outdoor Championships in Ayr, Scotland, in men's pairs lawn bowls. She beat Singapore's Tianwei Feng 12-10, 5-11, 11-8, 5-11, 5-11, 11-9, 13-11.

"I am so disappointed, I should have won a gold medal and I have to settle for a bronze".

Vandana took the field with bandage on her forehead and immediately made an impact as India got three back-to-back penalty corners. Saina will now take on the victor of PV Sindhu and Michelle Li in the final. Lake missed at 1.95 m and had two tries at 1.97 but missed both.

Indian women's hockey team suffered a humiliating 0-6 defeat in the bronze medal match against England to finish fourth at the Commonwealth Games.

Seems like no stopping India in the ongoing commonwelath games.

Both the Aussie Men and Women's team are taking on New Zealand in the Gold Medal matches for the Hockey, and the pool action continues at the Rugby 7s.
