The Seattle city council is now considering raising the base fare for Uber and Lyft rides, as a way to boost driver pay.

The ride-sharing service Uber is adding some safety features to its service and apps that it's testing in Denver.

"After misleading consumers about its privacy and security practices, Uber compounded its misconduct by failing to inform the Commission that it suffered another data breach in 2016 while the Commission was investigating the company's strikingly similar 2014 breach", said Acting FTC Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the slew of new collaborations it announced yesterday shows the company wants to be a partner with cities where it operates, as well as "solve the problem of auto ownership". Now the program is being expanded to Washington, D.C. The initial release for Uber's new app options will be available in San Francisco only.

"At Masabi our mission has always been to make it quicker and easier to get around cities using a range of transit options and in Uber, we've found a ideal partner to help us further that mission", said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi ( @bkzanghi ).

"It hits property owners, it hits visitors, it hits residents and it hits the ridesharing services that we think is best for the city", she said. Khosrowshahi says he and his team "believe in" them.

Uber Technologies said on Thursday it unveiled new safety features including an emergency button that will connect USA riders directly to 911. This tie-up, announced this week, will see Uber add public transit mobile ticketing into the Uber app. Uber said that it is committed to providing further links to public transit. GetAround installs electronic locks in the vehicles, so that renters can access the cars with their smartphones.

The company also said it was expanding its Uber Movement traffic data site to include 12 new cities globally.

In the revised complaint issued today, the FTC alleges that Uber learned in November 2016 that intruders had again accessed consumer data the company stored on its third-party cloud provider's servers by using an access key an Uber engineer had posted on a code-sharing website. Getaround is now available in cities like Seattle, DC, Portland, San Francisco and Oakland.
