Ibrahimovic: I didn't want to let it down this time

"Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was presented as the new player of Los Angeles Galaxy in a press conference where he declared that he was born old and will die young like Benjamin Button, the famous character from Brad Pitt's movie" The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Less than 48 hours after arriving in Los Angeles, Ibrahimovic came off the bench to score two goals and lead the Galaxy to a 4-3 win over LAFC.

The Sky Sports pundit told Super Sunday he had been left impressed by the Swedish striker's sensational half-volley to pull Galaxy level from 3-0 down six minutes after he came on, but that it was a effect of his self-confidence and ability.

The Swedish striker followed up with a gutsy header in the 91st minute from a pass by Ashley Cole that proved to be Galaxy's victor, sending the sell-out crowd of 27,068 into a frenzy on a sun-soaked day in Southern California.

"Someone texted me straight away, I went to check the goal and I was like 'yeah, that's just Zlatan.' I'm not trying to play it down, it's outstanding and wonderful, but that's just Zlatan".

"The fans were demanding something", he said afterwards, "and I gave them Zlatan". "They were pushing me and I was giving back".

The inaugural "El Traffico" derby was all one-way traffic at the start as expansion team LAFC immediately put pressure on a short-handed Galaxy squad, who were playing without Romain Alessandrini, Jonathan dos Santos and Giovani dos Santos.

Vela drew first blood after only five minutes, picking up the ball on the edge of the area and curling a magnificent strike beyond the dive of Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham to make it 1-0.

LAFC had surged into a 3-0 lead early in the second half after two goals from Carlos Vela and an own goal from Daniel Steres.

Ibrahimovic, who has hardly played in the past year during his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained last April, said he had been itching to take the field as Galaxy fell behind by three goals.

Ibrahimovic won it in the opening seconds of stoppage time with a header off a cross by Ashley Cole to send a sold-out StubHub Center into hysterics. I was just waiting to come in.

"He was a huge talent, back then he did things mostly on his own but now he reads the game in a completely different way and gets in much better positions", he added.
