'Man of mystery' cooperates with Mueller in Russian Federation probe

Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation has reportedly uncovered evidence that a secret meeting in Seychelles shortly before President Trump's inauguration was meant to create a back channel between the incoming administration and the Kremlin.

Nader attended a December 2016 meeting in NY between Emirati officials and members of Trump's inner circle, and another in January 2017 in the Seychelles islands between the Emiratis and Erik Prince, a Trump associate.

Prince told lawmakers that the meeting was by chance and lasted only around 30 minutes.

A witness, who has been cooperating with Mueller, told investigators the meeting was set up before the inauguration so someone from Trump's transition team could meet with a Moscow emissary, WaPo's report notes, which relies exclusively on unnamed sources. Blackwater founder Erik Prince-whose sister, Betsy DeVos, is Trump's education secretary-attended the meeting with businessman George Nader, an adviser to the UAE who the New York Times reports is cooperating with Mueller. Rep. Michael Conaway, R-Texas, who is running the panel's Russian Federation probe, declined to comment Thursday about whether he would call Nader or Prince for an interview. "I remember telling him that if Franklin Roosevelt could work with Josef Stalin to defeat Nazi fascism, then certainly Donald Trump could work with Vladimir Putin to defeat Islamic fascism".

In January of 2017, a billionaire donor to Donald Trump's presidential campaign allegedly tried to set up a secret meeting between the incoming administration and the Russian government.

Also Wednesday, it was revealed that Trump recently approached two key witnesses cooperating with Mueller about what they told investigators, breaking with the advice of his lawyers. But on top of the reportedly illicit nature of the meeting, Prince's role as a representative for the Trump administration is disconcerting, given his reputation as a war profiteer and anti-Muslim Crusader. In fact, Prince-founder of the security firm Blackwater and brother of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos-testified to a House panel about it past year.

The Post reported Nader has testified before a grand jury gathering evidence about discussions between the Trump transition team and emissaries of the Kremlin as part of Mueller's investigation.

Representatives of Prince had no immediate comment on the Post story, and had declined to comment on previous reports about Nader and the Seychelles meeting.

Rice sought the names of senior Trump officials in order to find out why Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the crown prince of the UAE, made a decision to visit NY late 2017, she told the committee in a closed-door interview, according to a CNN report at the time.
