24 flu-related hospitalizations reported in LeFlore County

The flu shot may prevent the risk of a heart attack, according to some doctors.

State health officials remind the public that there are several weeks remaining in the flu season, and the number of hospitalizations and deaths will continue to increase. The CDC suggests that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated because the flu season will not be dying down any time soon. A 10-year-old girl with underlying health conditions died this month, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

As of February 16, 2018, NMDOH reports 28 season-to-date flu outbreaks in long-term care facilitates (LTCFs), thirty-four flu-related deaths, all in adults, and 100 pneumonia-related deaths.
