3 officers shot, 1 suspect dead in Georgia

McBrayer said one representative was in genuine condition, and had been hit underneath the slug confirmation vest.

After talking with the person who they wanted to arrest, deputies called dispatch for backup and the Locust Grove officer arrived minutes later.

But while trying to serve the warrant, an altercation broke out, according to the sheriff, and all three officers were shot.

The Locust Grove officer died at the scene.

The suspect in the incident is dead.

"Police officers don't get paid enough for what they have to do", Wade Corley said. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Nelly Miles said officials are still notifying next of kin before identifying the suspect.

He said gunfire emitted as they were attempting to arrest a male suspect.

"It is a very emotional time for the Henry County community", Miles said. The second deputy was listed in fair condition.

Sheriff's Deputies Michael Corley (left) Ralph Sidwell Callaway (right) were both injured and taken to hospital.

WSB-TV reported two of the law officers were flown away by helicopter while the third was carried by ambulance.

The shooting took place inside a home off St. Francis Court in Locust Grove.

Yellow police tape cordoned off an area of one home's front yard.

Locust Grove Mayor Robert Price described Maddox as a "smart young man" who had been hired directly out of school. "It's scary because you never know who is in your neighborhood".
