Coquelin will join Valencia says Wenger

Either way the Arsenal boss has obviously chose to make do without the 26 year old Frenchman who was once the answer to all of their defensive midfield problems.

You'd hardly think that losing players would be Arsene Wenger's priority in the transfer window right now but the Frenchman today lost Francis Coquelin to Valencia for £12 million.

He added: 'I've seen the team, they are doing very well, third in the table.

While he was once considered a mainstay in the Arsenal side, especially after his loan spell at Charlton Athletic was cut short, the 26-year-old has only to make one Premier League start this season. "I spoke on the phone, we had a good contact, a good conversation, so I am very happy to be here today", Coquelin said.

After leaving Coquelin out of Arsenal's team for Wednesday's League Cup semi-final first leg draw at Chelsea, Wenger confirmed: "He goes to Valencia".

The Spanish side teased Coquelin's arrival on Twitter, with reports in Spain claiming Arsenal could get as much as £22m from a deal that should be officially announced in the next 24 hours.

Coquelin's departure puts him higher in the list to take up a spot in midfield and Wenger believes his stint at full-back and wing-back will go a long way in making him a better player.

Coquelin joined Arsenal from Stade Lavallois and made his debut in 2008.
