Monaco Boss Claims Thomas Lemar Could Leave In January Amid Arsenal Interest

Jurgen Klopp is on the look out for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho after he finally completed his £142m move to Barcelona and the report says Lemar is the Liverpool manager's first choice target.

Liverpool would need to eclipse the club-record fee paid for Virgil van Dijk if they are to be successful in signing AS Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar.

Jardim claimed that Monaco were under no pressure to sell one of their prized assets before the window shuts at the end of the month, but admitted that he would have to see what occurs between now and then over Lemar's possible sale.

Lemar is one of the best young midfielders in Europe and will certainly enhance the quality of the current Liverpool midfield.

But with the scoring form of Liverpool's trio, especially Salah who has 17 goals so far at 0.96 per 90, Lemar to Liverpool could be a deal worth doing.

But, several clubs still remain interested in the 22-year-old, with Arsenal and Liverpool, in particular, keen on signing him.

"We don't usually sell in winter, but the transfer window is open until the end of the month, and you have to prepare yourself for anything and everything", he said.

Now, Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim has spoken about a potential transfer and isn't exactly ruling it out.

Lemar had been close to making a switch to the Premier League with Arsenal last summer as Arsene Wenger looked to sign the £90m-rated forward to replace Manchester City-bound Sanchez.

Lemar would be a natural replacement for Coutinho but Liverpool FC could be forced to pay over the odds for the talented France attacker given Monaco will be aware of the Reds' inflated transfer budget.

Monaco are still unwilling to sell Lemar, but if he pushes for an exit, their hand may be forced, in which case, they will command a £90 million fee for him.
