US Quaker group on Israel's 'BDS blacklist' responds undeterred

Members of 18 global organizations that promote a boycott campaign of Israel, known collectively as the BDS movement, will be banned from entering the country, according to a list published Sunday by the Ministry of Strategic Affairs.

"The organizations named in the list released have undertaken ongoing, consistent and significant action to promote and advance a boycott of Israel", a statement said.

According to the TV report these include BDS groups from Italy, France, South Africa, Scandinavia, and the Jewish American group Jewish Voice for Peace.

Israel on Sunday published a list of organizations whose members are henceforth banned from entering the country due to their support of the BDS movement, which calls for boycotting and imposing sanctions on Israel. "The boycott organizations need to know that the state of Israel will act against them and will not allow them to enter its territory in order to harm its citizens". Despite a French High Court ruling in October 2016 that the BDS campaign incites hatred and discrimination, the AFPS maintains a website page promoting the boycott of Israel.

Human rights groups condemned the move as an assault on free speech.

He called the Israeli move similar to the tactics used by the apartheid regime in South Africa when it tried to censor critics.

Responding to news of the blacklist, Gary Spedding, a British cross-party consultant on Israel and the Palestinian Territories, told The Independent the blacklist was merely an excuse to legally justify barring activists and human rights observers from entering the country.

Hugh Lanning, chair of the PSC, said in a statement: "This latest announcement should be a wakeup call for the United Kingdom government and all those who continue to describe Israel as a normal liberal democracy". "The organizations' activities are carried out through a false propaganda campaign aimed at undermining Israel's legitimacy in the world". Only states that wish to protect their ability to act unjustly behave in this way.

However, a spokesperson for the Labour leader revealed last month that Corbyn does not support the BDS movement. Most recently, pop singer Lorde joined a number of other performers who have canceled performances in Israel amid pressure from BDS activists.

The organisations were singled out by Israel's rightwing strategic affairs and public security minister, Gilad Erdan, for advocating boycotts of Israel over its treatment of Palestinians. "The creation of this list is another step in our struggle against the incitement and lies of the boycott organisations".
