Samsung Unveiled a 146-inch Modular TV it's Calling

Samsung is aiming to regain the high-ground in TV, with an early introduction of 8K and a new generation of TV technology, in the shape of MicroLED. It's astoundingly bright, colors are rich and vibrant, and the black levels are indeed inky dark. Made possible by Samsung's advancements in semiconductor processing techniques and LED technology, the pixel LED modules of The Wall's self-emitting technology are smaller than ever before, and each chip incorporates RGB color.

Samsung's senior vice president of consumer electronics at Samsung Electronics America, Dave Das, believes "Micro LED is groundbreaking" for the The Wall (and Samsung's future attempts to pin back OLED's stronghold on the luxury TV market), as it offers "outstanding brightness, contrast, and close-to- ideal viewing from any angle".

Samsung's 146-inch TV, aptly named The Wall, was created using new MicroLED technology designed to rival OLED TVs from LG and Sony, and will be launched later this year.

We're excited about this next step along our roadmap to the future of screen technology.

Unlike LCD or OLED TVs, which max out at about 85 inches and cost as much as a auto, The Wall can increase the screen size dramatically with MicroLED without the massive bump in cost that would price all but the wealthiest out of it, PC Magazine reported. While there's no real prospect of widespread 8K content any time soon, the company claims the sets can upscale content from as low-resolution as standard definition. The Wall is one of the new smart TVs from Samsung that will come with the company's Bixby digital assistant.

Samsung also featured the world's first QLED TV featuring 8K AI technology, which will be launched internationally, starting with Korea and the U.S. during the second half of 2018.

"Samsung also showed off two TVs that are more likely to go on sale this year: "85" and 65" models with an "8K" resolution (7680 x 4320). 2018 will also see the launch of Universal Guide - an advanced program guide which automatically recommends TV programs and content according to a user's preferences.

"It's the biggest, best TV in the world right now and I would say it's got the highest quality of display, but the competition will announce what they've got tomorrow", Mr Brown said. The SmartThings integration will provide enhanced sharing, connectivity and control of the TV and sync with other devices.
