Golden Globes 2018: Stars Will Take Activists to the Red Carpet

Meryl has won eight Globes in competitive categories in the past and she also was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award a year ago. News' Ryan Seacrest, Meryl Streep said that the power of the #MeToo movement is that "people have become aware now of how power imbalance leads to abuse in our own industry" as well as among women in other industries, including working-class women employed as domestic workers.

Hollywood stars are wearing black to speak out against sexual harassment in the workplace, and it's not just about matters in Hollywood.

In keeping with the spirit of the empowering Time's Up movement, eight actresses will take female activists as their plus-ones to the Golden Globes Sunday night.

The special plus-ones afforded the women an opportunity to keep questions on the carpet about issues.

Streep - who has been heavily criticized for her response to the allegations against her longtime collaborator Harvey Weinstein - will bring along National Domestic Workers Alliance director and 2014 MacArthur fellow Aj-jen Poo, according to Variety. Jayaraman is the co-founder and co-director of the Restaurant Opportunities Center United and director of the Food Labor Research Center at UC Berkeley.

Michelle Williams will bring Burke, the founder of #metoo and a woman who has campaigned for gender and racial justice for decades. "We have a long history of combating sexual violence", said Ramirez, who says her organization wanted to send a message to women in the entertainment industry that they stand with them.

Sarandon's guest was organizer Rosa Clemente, founder of PR (Puerto Rico) On The Map.

Emma Stone brought Billie Jean King, whom she portrayed in "Battle of the Sexes".

Woodley is set to bring Calina Lawrence, a Suquamish Tribe member and activist for Native American treaty and water rights.
