More than 100 Sears, Kmart stores to close

The company announced that 64 Kmart stores will be closing across the county, including a store in our area.

The company also announced that 39 Sears stores will close.

The decline of Sears Holdings has been swift in recent years.

The Anchorage store is located in the Sears Mall on busy Northern Lights Boulevard, a commercial thoroughfare through the state's largest city.

The Tucumcari location was listed as an unprofitable location and is scheduled to close in early April.

Sears Holding, the parent company of both retailers, made the announcement Thursday. The affected locations plan to begin clearance sales as early as January 12.

Third-quarter 2017 revenue totaled about $3.7 billion compared with $5 billion for the third quarter of 2016.

Sears Holdings goes on to say that employees affected by the closures will be able to apply to nearby Kmart and Sears Stores. Following is a complete list of the impacted stores.

There are Sears stores in Whitehall, Reading, Stroudsburg and Phillipsburg.
