Isaiah Thomas will not play against Celtics on Wednesday

In the middle of a frenetic season, and without the benefit of a preseason, Thomas has to learn how to integrate himself into the Cavaliers' offense (and defense) next to LeBron James, a man used to doing everything in pretty much every position for this team.

Thomas has never played a game in a Cleveland uniform and was part of the trade during the offseason that send Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics.

Cleveland plays Boston on Wednesday, meaning the two-time All-Star could play against his former team depending on how the game against Portland goes. He can't get frustrated thinking it's going to happen overnight. "But we're very excited to have him back". So, it should be something special in 2018."Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue is preaching patience, mentioning that Thomas needs to get back in game shape, get his timing down and adjust to a new system".

The Washington product set a career-high with 28.9 points per game last season while shooting 37.9 percent from three-point range and earning All-NBA Second Team honors.

"I'm a scoring guard and I know how to put the ball in the basket", Thomas said. But they've got to be patient and stay the course.

His status for Wednesday's game remains unclear at this time, but he hasn't been ruled out for the Cavaliers home game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers and Trail Blazers will face off in Cleveland at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday night on NBA TV. It would be highly unlikely he'd be peak Isaiah Thomas in his first game back from injury. But, I mean, for being 28-years old and this being the first time I've ever been really hurt and had to sit down, it made you appreciate it even more and I definitely don't take it for granted."This made me a better basketball player, a better person mentally and physically".
