TaxSlayer Bowl: Freshman Keytaon Thompson leads Mississippi State past Louisville

Jackson's 50th career rushing touchdown came in the second quarter of Louisville's matchup against No. 23 Mississippi State in the Taxslayer Bowl. Thompson struggled with his accuracy against Ole Miss, but that shouldn't come as a surprise given his lack of experience.

Jackson completed 13 of 31 passes for 171 yards, with two touchdowns, four picks and six sacks.

The holiday season bowls just keep on coming, don't they?

It likely was Lamar Jackson's farewell performance. - MSU interim head coach Greg Knox.

Defensively, MSU will face one of its toughest challenges in Heisman Trophy victor Lamar Jackson, who is just one of three quarterbacks nationally, joining MSU's own Fitzgerald, to throw for over 1,700 yards and rush for over 900 yards this season. Junior defensive back Mark McLaurin had three of those interceptions.

He ran 24 times for 158 yards and a touchdown, breaking the TaxSlayer Bowl record for most rushing yards by a quarterback.

It was the ninth win of the year for 24th-ranked Mississippi State. Jackson has yet to declare for the National Football League draft, but most outsiders believe the dynamic junior will turn pro. The maroon and white have plenty of momentum entering 2018 under new head coach Joe Moorhead.

He had the longest run of his career, a 75-yarder late in the second quarter, and a 13-yard TD scamper earlier in the game in which he split two defenders and made another look silly. Before halftime, he also broke his own school record from 2016 with 5,139 yards total offense this season, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Lamar Jackson (1,443 yards, 17 TDs) is the leading rusher, but running backs Malik Williams (518, 4) and Reggie Bonnafon (446, 7) have done their part as well. He also has a rushing score, so that playing experience could be beneficial, especially considering the Cardinals open next season against perennial power Alabama in nearby Orlando on September 1.

Jackson became just the third player in FBS history - after Colin Kaepernick and Tim Tebow - to post 50 rushing touchdowns in addition to 50 passing touchdowns.
