Trump says China-North Korea oil sale will prevent nuclear solution

Tensions have flared anew over North Korea's ongoing nuclear and missile programmes, pursued in defiance of years of United Nations resolutions.

China has repeatedly said it is fully enforcing all resolutions against North Korea, despite suspicion in Washington, Seoul and Tokyo that loopholes still exist.

Trump tweeted a compilation video Thursday that includes edited footage of an interview he did with NBC's "Meet the Press" almost two decades ago.

US spy satellites reportedly captured photos of Chinese ships illegally selling oil to North Korean boats some 30 times since October.

Such ship-to-ship trades are banned under a UN Security Council resolution adopted in September, but according to South Korean government sources, American satellites have pictured large vessels from both China and North Korea illegally trading in a stretch of the West Sea on multiple occasions.

China has commented on reports alleging that it exports oil to North Korean by saying that Beijing " completely and strictly" implements United Nations trade restrictions recently adopted against Pyongyang. The US Treasury Department later placed six North Korean shipping and trading companies and 20 of their vessels on sanctions list.

Trump said on Twitter Thursday that China had been "Caught RED HANDED", adding he was "very disappointed that China is allowing oil to go into North Korea".

According to the most recent Chinese customs data released Tuesday, the country did not export gasoline, jet fuel, diesel or fuel oil to Pyongyang in November. However, the country's records reportedly showed it exported no oil products to the North during the month of November.

Documents seen by Reuters this month showed Washington called on the Security Council to blacklist 10 ships for circumventing sanctions by conducting ship-to-ship transfers of refined petroleum products to North Korean vessels or transporting North Korean coal.

A ministry spokeswoman said Wednesday she had no information about the latest report, but said China has strictly enforced trade restrictions.
