Four hurt in 'attempted terrorist attack' in NY

The man suspected of trying to bomb New York City's main bus terminal is 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, according to New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill.

An explosion that reportedly went off around 7:30 a.m. this morning inside the Port Authority subway station prompted the NYPD to shut down the station along with the Times Square subway stop, which is connected to it by a tunnel.

A small bomb exploded near an underground train station in New York's Times Square on Monday.

"They've been bombing in my country and I wanted to do damage here", sources said.

Three bystanders were injured in the explosion, according to the New York City Fire Department, though none of the injuries are severe.

The suspect has made "statements" about the explosion, but authorities did not say what the comments were.

Four people have been injured in a blast at a subway station in the heart of Manhattan, in what the mayor of NY said was an "attempted terrorist attack".

Officials said it was unclear whether Ullah intentionally set off the device at that particular location, or whether it may have detonated on its own.

The blast occurred about 7:20 a.m. near West 42th Street and Eighth Avenue, police said. We're not going to allow them disrupt us.

Following Monday's attack, commuters told of mass chaos and a "stampede" following the explosion as NY commuters fled in terror through the smoky passageway.

WABC reported the suspect was in his 20s and was from Bangladesh, and that he has been in the United States for seven years and has an address in New York's Brooklyn. "Our first responders were there quickly and the only injuries we know of right now are minor", he said.

He said he had been motivated by USA air strikes on IS targets in Syria and elsewhere, the New York Times reports.

The device, a pipe bomb, was attached to Ullah with Velcro and zip ties, said John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism.

He lived in the same apartment building as his brother whom he recently worked with at an electrical company close to Port Authority, police said.

NY is on high alert ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays and after the recent truck attack in lower Manhattan that killed eight people and injured 12.

President Trump "has been briefed on the explosion in New York City", White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said via a tweet. "We've proved it time and time again. I was standing and watching and scared". I never watch Don Lemon, who I once called the "dumbest man on television!"

New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio has stated that the explosion that hit central Manhattan a few hours earlier was "an attempted terrorist attack", confirming that one individual was involved in the attack. The suspect in that attack drove a truck down a crowded bicycle path.
