Samsung, LG to debut new laptops

While the Notebook 9 Pen is a 2-in-1 PC with the S-Pen, the Notebook 9 (2018) is a more conventional laptop. The new devices are expected to include Intel's 8th generation U series Core i7 processor. Samsung has squeezed in a HDMI port, a single USB-C port, and a regular USB port, alongside microSD storage and a Windows Hello camera to sign into Windows 10 with just your face.

It features a 13.3-inch Full HD display and is driven by Intel Core i7 processor (8 gen), Intel HD graphics and up to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM.

The Notebook 9 comes in 13.3- and 15-inch flavors, with the latter offering discrete graphics in the form of an Nvidia GeForce MX150. It is also expected to support fast charging. Apart from that, the laptops will also sport HDMI port, USB-C port, fingerprint scanner and PCI Express-based NVMe SSDs. The 15-inch USB-C port will support Thunderbolt 3, and there's also an additional USB 2.0 port on the larger model.

Samsung says all models will be showcased for the first time at CES 2018 in Las Vegas in January next year, while sales in Korea begins later this month.

While Samsung hasn't revealed all of the hardware details yet, it has revealed the changes these 2018 models bring versus the current versions. When the S Pen is removed from the notebook, the Air Command menu launches automatically.

Samsung has officially unveiled a new 2-in-1 device called Notebook 9 Pen along with three variants of the Notebook 9 (2018). There is a 360-degree hinge which offers the option of converting the device from a tablet to a laptop merely by rotating the keyboard. Unlike a few rivals, the S Pen doesn't need to be charged and is designed for immediate use. As for the "regular" Notebook 9 laptops, these will come in three different flavors, ranging from 13.3-inch displays to that of 15-inch, and save for their differences in design and lack of a touchscreen display, they will share similar hardware specs in terms of RAM and processor. The stylus pen which is going to accompany the device will also include IR scanning for facial recognition. As for ports, the Samsung Notebook 9 Pen comes with one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one HDMI ports and a United States dollars card slot.
