New Sabrina Series Gets Two-Season Order from Netflix

New Sabrina Series Gets Two-Season Order from Netflix

Originally developed at the CW, the new Sabrina show has moved to Netflix where viewers can marathon all of the episodes at once. The now untitled Sabrina series will be based on the Archie Comics' graphic novel The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. And it's a big order, too: The streaming service has nabbed a two-season, 20-episode serving of the series.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is being written by Aguirre-Sacasa, with Lee Toland Krieger directing and Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros.

Riverdale series creator/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is executive producing and writing the Sabrina the Teenage Witch series for Netflix. So, when will the Sabrina reboot be on Netflix?

The show was initially put into development at The CW in September. Perhaps streaming results from Riverdale appearing on Netflix enticed the streaming giant to make a move in acquiring Sabrina for themselves.

Sabrina tells the story of Sabrina the Teenage Witch with a wicked twist on the story from Archie Comics. Described as tonally being in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature - half-witch, half-mortal - while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

So uh, maybe don't expect a laugh track à la beloved sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch. But producer Greg Berlanti loves a bit of stunt casting when called for (See: original movie Supergirl Helen Slater and former TV Superman Dean Cain as Kara Danvers' parents on Supergirl), so don't be surprised if Melissa Joan Hart gets some kind of role on this new series. So far, Netflix hasn't said when the new show would debut, but shooting on the first batch of episodes is reportedly slated to begin in February, with the second season's shoot wrapping in October. No word on if that plan has changed now that the show has jumped from The CW to Netflix.

No firm date has been given for the show's premiere, but it is expected to drop sometime in 2018.
