Big Sam brought in to steady the ship at struggling Everton

Moshiri and Allardyce watched the game from the directors' box - his first official match in charge will be Saturday's home clash with Huddersfield.

They've had plenty of abuse thrown their way from rival fans as well as their own frustrated followers. But, after Everton's pursuit of Watford boss Marco Silva was met with a firm rebuttal from Vicarage Road, the club returned to Allardyce.

Everton have confirmed that former England manager Sam Allardyce is poised to be appointed manager.

Everton hasn't won any silverware since 1995 but, having won nine top-flight league titles, five FA Cups and a European trophy, it is regarded as one of England's most famous clubs. Because, ultimately, it's the ambition of the club, the ambition of the owner and the board, allied to the fact that it's Everton and all the fantastic history, which have proved to be key for me.

Allardyce has been out of management since his surprise decision to quit Crystal Palace at the end of last season, having succeeded in a six-month mission to keep them in the top-flight. "Sam understands the long-term ambitions we have for this great club and I know he is a man who gives it his all and is focused 24 hours a day on the club". The team has already been eliminated from the Europa League, too. That's hard when you're losing but the win last night over West Ham and the magnificent atmosphere around Goodison, which was just brilliant, well that's lifted everybody around the club.

Sam Allardyce will be at USM Finch Farm this afternoon to finalise terms on becoming the new manager of Everton Football Club. Allardyce is known to prioritize clean sheets above anything, and work from there.

Expect Allardyce to sign defensive reinforcements in the January transfer window, and maybe a striker, as he bids to extend Everton's top-flight presence to a 64th straight season. But, after taking four points from their first two games, Everton managed the same tally from their next seven fixtures and Koeman was sacked.
