Musharraf calls himself 'greatest supporter of LeT'

Recently released Jamaatud Dawa (JD) chief Hafiz Saeed said that India is violating the global human rights laws using "chemical weapons" against Kashmiris to suppress their freedom struggle.

Senior government and retired military figures say the party has the backing of Pakistan's powerful military.

"We had banned LeT because the situation was different at that time". Also said that militant group likes him too.

"I am the biggest supporter of LeT and I know they like me and JuD (Jamaat-ud-Dawa) also likes me", Musharraf told Pakistan's ARY News this week, referring to the groups founded by Saeed.

Musharraf also said the LeT "was not involved" in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Former Pakistani President and military ruler Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that he likes the Mumbai attacks mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed and is the "biggest supporter" of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. "They are the biggest force (LeT), India got them declared as terrorist by partnering with the U.S.".

"Yes, they are involved in Kashmir and I support them, " Musharraf said and added that he "supports" that involvement. "The Hafiz Saeed issue is an issue in India, not in the United States".

Following his release, the US had asked Pakistan to re-arrest Saeed, who has been designated a terrorist by the US Justice Department.

"Not only did Pakistan give refuge to Bin Laden, responsible for attacks against United States on 9/11, Pakistan set free a terrorist who has a Dollars 10 million American bounty on his head", she said. "Saeed was the mastermind behind the Mumbai attack that killed hundreds, including 6 Americans", tweeted the first American Samoan Hindu member of the US Congress.

Saeed was put under house arrest after the Mumbai attack in November 2008 but he was freed by a court in 2009.

Washington had said that the JuD chief's release sends a "deeply troubling message about Pakistan's commitment to combating worldwide terrorism".

"I feel sad that a man of his integrity, who has been the chief of the Pakistan Army as well as the president, has praised something like this".
