Microsoft Office is now available on every Chromebook

The app is now available from the Google Play Store, according to Chrome Unboxed. and is free to any device with a screen size less than 10.1 inches, such as the Chromebook Flip from Asus.

For some people, Office is a deal-maker, but for a lot of people the obvious alternative on the Chromebook is to use Google apps instead. They were able to confirm that Microsoft Office was able to download on the Play Store for all of the mentioned devices. These versions of the Microsoft Office apps require a subscription to Office 365, and those without said subscription will only be able to use these apps to view files. Before now, users have been relegated to Google Docs and other Google apps - as well as a handful of Android apps and/or Chrome apps for all their document needs.

Office apps have always been corralled to only a particular set of Chromebooks, with no apparent rules or reason behind it. True to its word, Google ensured Pixelbook and Samsung's new Chromebook supported Google Play. That left some to wonder if the apps' arrival was still forthcoming, while others explored workarounds. Well, the wait is now over and ALL Chromebooks can now run Microsoft Office.

Now the Office Android apps for Chromebook are here, but there are a few caveats we should note. At that time, Chrome Unboxed contacted Microsoft to clarify the situation, and Microsoft responded by stating that support for Microsoft Office was in the works for Chromebooks, but some kinks had to be worked out.

Neither Microsoft nor Google have had anything official to say about this just yet, and we don't know for certain that it is open to every Chromebook product, but this does so far seem to be the case (and Microsoft had been working on wider support).
