Manchester City maintain 8-point lead with 2-1 win over Huddersfield

After Huddersfield took a shock lead, Raheem Sterling won a penalty - which Sergio Aguero converted to draw the teams level - before completing the comeback himself six minutes from time to restore an eight-point lead for City at the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola's City defeated Huddersfield 2-1 Sunday to equal a club record 11th straight league win.

Things originally didn't go to plan for Man City when they went behind to newly promoted Huddersfield Town on the stroke of half time.

City had the flawless response as Sergio Aguero equalized from the penalty spot before Raheem Sterling's late victor moved the leaders eight points clear of second placed Manchester United.

Guardiola, whose side have dropped points in just one of their 13 Premier League games this season, said: "We said that we needed this situation to happen - you have to live it, to be in trouble".

'The corrections from the first half were minimal because we played quite good - we created more chances than in the second half but that is the Premier League for you. We spoke about not giving up, to keep going.

After top-four contenders Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool failed to win on Saturday, Arsenal capitalised but were indebted to Sanchez's nerveless late penalty against Burnley. So, the gaps are nearly impossible but we found them, most of the time, and that's why I'm so, so pleased. "Football's a harsh game and sometimes it hurts you".

"No, no because we were lucky, or unlucky, to come here last season so I experienced that and only discussed that Huddersfield are able to play five, 10 minutes".

Southampton's Dusan Tadic scores his side's first goal during the English Premier League soccer match between Southampton and Everton, at St Mary's, in Southampton, England, Sunday Nov. 26, 2017.

The Spanish manager reserved special praise for match-winner Raheem Sterling, who's been enjoying fine goalscoring form so far this season.

He added: "He is young and he can still improve, but now he is a winning player, he is winning games".
