Derrick Rose away from Cavs, evaluating career as injuries take mental toll

Rose's increasing frustration with injuries is causing him to consider his desire to continue playing in the league, sources said.

"He's exhausted of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally", a source told ESPN.

Throughout his career, Rose has had to deal with various injuries, with the most damaging ones coming after his 2010-11 MVP season. A year ago with the Knicks he played 64 games. With Boston sitting comfortably at the top of the conference with a 4.5 game lead over the Cavs before play Friday, Cleveland losing depth at an already weak position will be another challenge for them to climb.

"Just a jacked-up ankle", Rose told ESPN at the time.

Wojnarowski pointed out Rose left the New York Knicks without permission for a day last season and was fined and eventually apologized.

". take as long as he needs to take, and we wish him well, and we want him back", Lue added. "For one, it had nothing to do with the team or basketball".

League sources say there is uncertainly inside and outside the franchise on whether he'll return to the Cavs. Tyronn Lue said he expects Rose to be back at some point, but did not say when. He originally suffered such an injury as a result of Cleveland's win over the Milwaukee Bucks on October 20, sitting out of his team's next four games before returning to the floor for the ensuing four contests. Now, according to ESPN's Nick DePaula, if Rose hangs 'em up, he could save Adidas up to $80 million. Right now, it's just a jacked-up ankle.

Now, the 29-year-old could be contemplating retirement. The contract is not fully guaranteed if Rose retires.

Rose was Cleveland's starting point guard at the start of the season as they're still without projected starting point guard Isaiah Thomas.
