Release of 'Padmavati' in United Kingdom is totally illegal: CBFC

Rupani also said that the ban was not only limited to the state assembly polls which will be held in December "but till the controversies subside".

"If historical facts are distorted, and if anything is shown or said in the movie against the respect of the country's mother Padmavatiji, then that movie can not be allowed to release in the land of Madhya Pradesh", Chouhan said.

Although the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is yet to review the film, the two BJP-ruled states unilaterally made a decision to ban the film.

Mumbai/London: Padmavati has been cleared by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) without any cuts, but the producers say they are not planning to release the film without the Indian censor board's go-ahead, sources said on Thursday.

Shri Rajput Karni Sena, a fringe group at the forefront protesting against the film, has stated clearly that it wants a complete ban on Padmavati.

The Rajput Karni Sena has said that the film has some scenes in between Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone who have played the role Alauddin Khilji and Queen Padmavati respectively. The board has asked the makers to resend the film for revision.

A special court in Jaipur is expected to decide today that if the crew of the movie 'Padmavati' should be prosecuted after a petitioner alleged that the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has chosen a very controversial topic to stoke trouble.

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear on November 28 a fresh petition for a direction to the producers of film Padmavati not to release it in the United Kingdom or in any other country outside India on December 1.

Such reactions have disturbed members of the film fraternity. In the summary of the film, it says, "Padmavati is a Hindi language epic drama in which a Sultan leads an invasion to capture a Rajput queen".

Bollywood is in chaos after death threats to a female star forced producers to postpone a much-anticipated movie.

Even the Maharashtra (another BJP-ruled state) and UP governments are mulling over imposing a ban on the film which has irked several Hindu groups for allegedly distorting history.
