Is Jude Law set to star in 'Captain Marvel' alongside Brie Larson?

The movie will introduce MCU followers to Larson's Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with an alien's DNA after an accident giving her the powers of flight, strength and energy projection. Now, word has come down that Law may have landed the male lead opposite Brie Larson's title character in Captain Marvel.

Sources have toldVariety that The Talented Mr. Ripley star is now in negotiations to play Doctor Walter Lawson, otherwise known as Mar-Vell, the Kree Hero who was the original Captain Marvel in the comics.

Welcome to the Marvel family, Jude Law. The actor will star opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming Captain Marvel. Although not said directly in this casting report, in comic books Mar-Vell is the Kree warrior who was Carol Danvers' namesake and mentor as the original Captain Marvel. He is also still attached to appear in a third Sherlock Holmes movie with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. The British star just recently joined the Harry Potter franchise, signing in on Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as the film's young Albus Dumbledore.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who directed Half Nelson. The film will co-star Ben Mendelsohn as the villain. Both of those films are set up at Warner Brothers.
