CBS News Fires Charlie Rose Following Sexual Harassment Allegations

Eight women came forward with allegations that Rose sexually harassed them between the 1990s and 2011, the Washington Post reported on Monday.

PBS, which has aired the show since its 1991 debut, replaced Monday's scheduled edition of Charlie Rose with an episode of Antiques Roadshow. King said the allegations did not fit the Rose she knew, but that "I'm clearly on the side of the women who have been very hurt and damaged by this".

In a statement, Rose apologised and said he was "greatly embarrassed". A former associate producer for Rose's PBS show, Reah Bravo, told the Washington Post: "He was a sexual predator, and I was his victim".

Rose was sacked Tuesday from CBS, where he co-hosted "CBS This Morning" and contributed to "60 Minutes", and PBS' "The Charlie Rose Show" after the Washington Post published an article Monday about women who said he groped them and walked around naked in front of them.

"Despite Charlie's important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace_a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work", CBS News President David Rhodes said in a memo to staff on Tuesday.

PBS said later on Tuesday it has terminated its relationship with Rose.

Rose was co-host of the network's morning show, CBS This Morning, and also contributed to its long-running and award-winning 60 Minutes.

These comments followed a regular news segment about the many reports that the 75-year-old veteran news anchor exposed himself and made lewd calls to women who worked for him. "For all of the women, reporters interviewed friends, colleagues or family members who said the women had confided in them about aspects of the incidents". By Tuesday morning, CBS executives determined that it was impossible for him to return to "CBS This Morning", the daily broadcast he has co-hosted for the past five years.

"This is a great place", Rose said in 2014.

She said Rose had groped her multiple times and claimed he once summoned her to his hotel room and emerged naked from the shower. There is no excuse for this alleged behavior.

"Charlie does not get a pass here", King said.

"Some critics might say, well why were they in position, you know, to see him naked?"

"Everything I experienced with journalism there made me not want to stay", said Godfrey-Ryan.
