Texans' players kneel prior to Seahawks game

The players were responding to McNair's controversial comments during an October 18 National Football League owners meeting where he said "we can't have the inmates running the prison".

On Thursday, NFL owners came together to discuss the national anthem protests, but one owner's comments stood out among the rest.

Before the game, writer and civil rights activist Sean King tweeted that he'd spoken with several Texans about the protest and many said they really didn't want to play.

The opening ceremonies of the Texans' late-afternoon game against the Seattle Seahawks were not broadcast live on CBS.

Texans plan group protest; options include kneeling, peeling Texans decal off helmet, raising fists, staying in locker room during anthem.

"Our focus going forward, personally and as an organization, will be towards making meaningful progress regarding the social issues that mean so much to our players and our community".

He's also caught just 10 touchdown passes in 33 games with the Seahawks after catching 46 in 63 games with the Saints in the four seasons he spent as a starter prior to being traded.

Later on Sunday, a majority of Houston Texans players knelt and locked arms during the anthem. I never meant to offend anyone and I was not referring to our players.

McNair publicly apologized on Friday and Saturday.

But discussion of the matter at the Fall League Meeting yielded no change in the NFL policy that players "should" stand for the anthem.

McNair's apologies and Saturday's meeting did not appear to do much to assuage players' concerns however, and ESPN reported Saturday night that players were weighing their options about what sort of demonstration that would do Sunday in Seattle. "I was not referring to [Texans] players".
