Amazon Key to Allow Delivery Agents Inside Your Abode

Amazon Key to Allow Delivery Agents Inside Your Abode

"Amazon Key gives customers peace of mind knowing their orders have been safely delivered to their homes and are waiting for them when they walk through their doors", said Peter Larsen, vice president of delivery technology at Seattle-based Amazon.

A Prime membership will cost you another $99 a year. It's to the point where I've wondered if Amazon is secretly plotting to take over the world and now there's one more piece of evidence in support of that plot with the company's latest announcement that they will now be offering delivery inside of your home.

The delivery person then gets a prompt on their app, swipes their screen, which then unlocks your front door.

In conjunction with Amazon Key, the company also debuted its Cloud Cam on Wednesday, which is an intelligent indoor security camera that features 1080p resolution, night vision, two-way audio, a wide viewing angle, and activity clips from the last 24 hours via the Amazon Cloud Cam App.

It will be interesting to see just how accepted Amazon Key becomes, and how many customers it will ultimately have.

While the in-home delivery comes at no extra charge to Prime members, it does require the purchase of the Amazon Key In-Home Kit, priced at $249.99.

The service could give Amazon an advantage over other delivery services as it seems all too often that videos on YouTube appear of people taking packages that are left outside of someone's door. Customers can either install the kit themselves or have a professional do so with no service fee.

Once again, Amazon has upped the game on delivery.

If you're anxious about trusting the delivery driver, all you have to do is turn to your phone.

All kinds of things can go wrong with connected devices, including the possibility that the driver could unlock the door, but then not be able to re-lock it. "These individuals are thoroughly vetted, with comprehensive background checks and motor vehicle records reviews".

The cloud camera would allow customers to remotely watch the delivery and other entries into the home as they are taking place. I can tell you from first-hand experience, this will not be a persuasive for some people. You'll be notified any time your guest locks or unlocks your door. When you put it that way, agreed, it's a little creepy.

If you think this idea Amazon has offered to their customers is wild, you are not the only one.
