Don Lemon calls Fox News hypocritical after reports of O'Reilly settlement

Wiehl claimed that she been subject to a pattern of behavior that included "harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material to her", according to people familiar with the settlement.

Notwithstanding that record, 21st Century Fox started contract transactions with Mr. O'Reilly, and in February conceded him a four-year expansion that paid $25 million a year.

The media company, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, was aware of the payment to legal analyst Lis Wiehl when they renewed Mr O'Reilly's four year agreement in February, according to an expose by the New York Times.

Meetings with individuals acquainted with the settlement, and reports acquired by The New York Times, demonstrate how the organization attempted and at last neglected to contain the second flood of a sexual harassment emergency that at first burst into general visibility the past summer and cost the Fox News executive, Roger Ailes, and in the long run Mr. O'Reilly, their occupations.

The sexual harassment allegations and the publicity around them are "politically and financially motivated", O'Reilly told the Times this week, "and we can prove it with shocking information, but I'm not going to sit here in a courtroom for a year and a half and let my kids get beaten up every single day of their lives by a tabloid press that would sit there, and you know it".

As part of the settlement, Wiehl agreed to destroy messages and photos from O'Reilly that could back up her complaints, and to keep silent on the issue, the newspaper reported.

Early that month, The Times gave an account of five settlements including Mr. O'Reilly, driving promoters to blacklist his show and generating challenges requiring his ouster.

The Times ignored that evidence, sworn under oath, and chose to rely on unsubstantiated allegations, anonymous sources and incomplete leaked or stolen documents.

"21st Century Fox has taken concerted action to transform Fox News, including installing new leaders, overhauling management and on-air talent, expanding training, and increasing the channels through which employees can report harassment or discrimination,"Saturday's 21CF statement asserted".

He was forced to resign in April following a raft of sexual harassment allegations.

Fox re-signed O'Reilly - the most popular figure in cable news - about seven months after a sexual harassment scandal involving its chairman and co-founder, Roger Ailes, exploded in July 2016. "I think he's a person I know well - he is a good person".

Ultimately, the Murdochs ousted O'Reilly after the initial Times report appeared in April, triggering an advertiser exodus from his program, "The O'Reilly Factor".

Wiehl appeared regularly on O'Reilly's program for 15 years, and said in her affidavit that she had worked with him, socialized with him and offered legal advice over an 18-year period.
