FBI Hopes Paddock's Girlfriend Can Provide Insight Into Las Vegas Attack

The Las Vegas gunman's girlfriend returned to the US overnight after a weekslong trip overseas and was met by investigators seeking to question her for clues to what drove Stephen Paddock to slaughter 59 people from his high-rise hotel suite.

Stephen Paddock was identified by police as the gunman who killed at least 59 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.

Marilou Danley, who USA authorities have described as a " person of interest" in the investigation, left Manila for Los Angeles yesterday evening aboard Philippine Airlines Flight PR 102, according to Philippines immigration spokeswoman Antonette Mangrobang.

"We have a lot of questions", Las Vegas Undersheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters.

Federal Bureau of Investigation say Stephen Paddock is an "outlier" as they still don't know his motives.

When asked if progress had been made on the shooter's motive, the sheriff said, "No. we are making progress, but I don't have complete answers yet".

"She was sent away. She was away so that she will be not there to interfere with what he's planning", one of Danley's sisters told Seven News from their home in Australia's Gold Coast region.

"The people are hurting and they want to lash out and they are lashing out at the wrong family, wrong people", Geary's daughter said.

"Of all the people that they have interviewed, .no one can put the puzzles together - no one - except Marilou, because Steve is not here to talk anymore". No one. Except Marilou. "Only Marilou can maybe help".

Authorities said Paddock, who had no criminal record, smashed windows in his hotel room shortly after 10pm on Sunday and rained fire on a crowd of some 22,000 attending a country music concert below.

The family said Marilou was a "wonderful" person and described her as kind and giving, adding that they hadn't heard from her.

Paddock and Danley shared a home in the town of Mesquite, 80km northeast of Las Vegas, where the authorities found a number of guns while searching the property.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo says his office has partnered with the FBI on the investigation but still has not come up with a motive for the shooting.

Paddock sent the money to an account before setting up a sniper's nest on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel on Sunday.

Marilou Danley lived with Paddock in a Reno suburb.

Investigators found that he also had a computer and 12 "bump stock" devices that can make an ordinary rifle fire incessantly like an assault rifle.

Ms Danley, an Australian citizen aged 62 who is reported to have been born in the Philippines, was not seen by reporters in any public area of the LAX arrival terminal.

When Stephen Paddock's live-in girlfriend returns to the USA after visiting her family in the Philippines, investigators are going to want to know what she knows about a $100,000 wire transfer to an account in her native country.
