Megyn Kelly Launches New Show, Saying She's Done With Politics for Now

In the first of many references to her memoir, Settle for More, Kelly explained that "more" now means "more time with my family, more joy in my life" and promised that her audience would "know who I am by the songs that I sing".

"You know why", she said.

"I am done with politics", Kelly told the in-studio crowd during the third hour of NBC's daily morning show, which opened with her giving a monologue about why she'd transitioned from cable news to daytime TV.

It's also a change from her more serious Sunday night newsmagazine program, on which her interviews with Russian President Vladimir Putin and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones attracted controversy and criticism. Fans on social media let Megyn Kelly have it on Twitter during the premiere episode of "Megyn Kelly TODAY". Then she said she wanted the show to be apolitical and for the show to be a place where viewers can be gifted with "a smile, sometimes a tear, and maybe some hope to start your day". Kelly gave viewers a rundown of her upbringing as she pointed out her grinning mom in the audience, shared a story about her relationship with her late father and accepted a bouquet of red roses from her husband, who emerged from the audience to greet Kelly with a kiss onstage. That show returns for a revival Thursday. "It's everywhere and it's gotten so dark and I'm over it".

Kelly's new program is as odd as the first one at NBC.

But John Oliver is here to remind us about the years before Kelly was trying to be a discount Oprah Winfrey, back when she was a Fox News anchor pushing the network's divisive agenda. "Some fun, that's what we want to be doing".

Answering a question from the audience, she said, "my biggest challenge is the alarm clock".
