Charles Bradley Passes Away At 68

A rep confirmed Bradley's passing on his official Twitter page, writing: 'It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Charles Bradley. Things took a turn for the worst recently when the cancer returned and spread to his liver.

Born in Florida in 1948 before later relocating to NY as a child, Bradley stayed on the fringes of music - working as a part-time musician throughout most of his life. He released his debut album No Time For Dreaming in 2011, which was praised for it's classically-informed soul sound and Bradley's powerful and charismatic voice. His most recent album, Changes, saw release in 2016 and featured a soulful rendition of Black Sabbath's 1972 song as its titular track.

The singer's remarkable life story and extraordinary journey was captured in the documentary Charles Bradley: Soul of America, directed by Poull Brien in 2012. Performing to his limit in his 60s garnered him respect and acclaim. See you on the other side. I think that he touched the right people's heart that believed in me and gave me a chance to come out.

Soul singer Charles Bradley died today after after succumbing to the stomach cancer he was diagnosed with last fall, according to his publicist. "I look forward to seeing your gorgeous faces soon, and to continue to share my love through music".

Bradley, known as the "Screaming Eagle of Soul" for his impassioned performances, famously found musical success late in life.

A press release announcing Bradley's death said: "Bradley passed away in Brooklyn on September 23, 2017, surrounded by family and friends including members of the bands he worked closely with: Menahan Street Band, His Extraordinaires, Budos Band and the Jimmy Hill Allstarz-his band from his time performing as Black Velvet".
