Horror moment Russian helicopter fires deadly missiles at crowd causing HUGE explosion

MOSCOW (AP) - A Russian military helicopter gunship accidentally fired on spectators during war games in western Russia, injuring several people, news reports said Tuesday.

RBC also posted a video of what appeared to show a rocket from a passing Ка-52 "Alligator" combat helicopter explode close to a group of men dressed in camouflage fatigues.

The Russian Embassy in London passed on a link to a report by the RIA Novosti agency that said the ministry denied any such accident had taken place during the Zapad exercises on Monday.

The 66.ru website, which published the video, said it believed the incident took place yesterday or the day before, but could not be certain.

A separate report, however, suggested there were three people injured, who were not civilians.

Life.ru said the rocket exploded near a crowd of journalists, military experts and foreign military attaches.

According to local media, two people - it claimed to be journalists - were left seriously injured after the military mishap.

The Zapad joint strategic exercise, with troops from Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, started on September 14.

Moscow has insisted that the exercises, which are held every four years, would rehearse a strictly defensive scenario and involve no more than 12,700 troops, just below the level that would require Russian Federation to allow North Atlantic Treaty Organisation observers under an global agreement.

Some 13,000 soldiers, plus hundreds of tanks and other vehicles, are taking part in the joint Russian-Belarussian exercise.

Putin, commander-in-chief of Russia's armed forces, sat in a command center flanked by his defense minister and the chief of his General Staff, and used binoculars to peer through a cold drizzle at the simulated conflict unfolding before his eyes.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation says it is watching the exercise with "calm and confidence", while Russian President Vladimir Putin was at a demonstration where Russian forces repelled an imaginary enemy.
