Location scout for Netflix's 'Narcos' shot dead in Mexico

A location scout for the popular Netflix series "Narcos", was shot to death in Mexico while scouting for the show, Variety reports.

El Pais reported of Narcos Season 4, "Production will soon portray the Cartel de Juárez, an organization headed by Amado Carrillo, better known as El señor de los cielos".

He was found in his vehicle "riddled with bullets" in Hidalgo, which has one of the highest murder rates in the country. "Last July, 182 cases were registered, a rate of 12.2 per 100,000 inhabitants". Variety reports that 182 people were killed there past year. According to a spokesperson for the Attorney General of the State of Mexico, there are now no witnesses because of the depopulated area. This has caused authorities to believe a persecution may have occurred.

The location scout, who has a great deal of productions to his name including Fast & Furious and Apocalypto, was working on finding shooting locations for season four when he was killed, though no witnesses have come forward to describe exactly what happened to him.

Narcos season 4 is said to delving into the origins of the Juarez cartel in Mexico, following season 3's focus on Colombia's Cali cartel.

Netflix said in a statement, "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Munoz Portal, a well-respected scout, and send our condolences to his family". We'll update you as we know more.
