Andre Ayew craves for more after West Ham first league win

West Ham reduced the pressure on manager Slaven Bilic with their very first Premier League win of the season as they defeat Huddersfield 2-0.

Pedro Obiang opened the scoring for the Hammers in the 72nd minute after his heavily deflected long-range effort wrong footed Jonas Lossl in the Terriers goal.

Five minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage through Ayew, who slotted from inside the six-yard area, following a corner.

According to BBC Sport, when asked after the win over Huddersfield why he brought off the forward, Bilic said: "You have to take a risk, Javier Hernandez was doing everything but we had good players on the bench".

The Hammers were playing their first home game of the season on Monday after having to travel for their opening three matches.

Andy Carroll won 13 aerial duels in the game, the most of any player in a Premier League game this season.

The Monday night game also marked Carroll's first start of the season after the 28-year-old returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Kouyate poked wide at the other end shortly afterwards and it looked as though West Ham's wait for a league win would go on until fortune intervened. It was a top performance and we totally deserved it. "It's my birthday and this is a great present". We were good in seconds and defended their set pieces ok.

"We were not fearless enough to ask for the ball in tight spaces and this was a big, big problem", said Wagner, who admitted he was at a loss to find any positives from the night.

Back came the visitors as Hart saved low from Steve Mounie and then watched Tom Ince smash against the crossbar, but West Ham held out to claim a huge three points.

'It's been tough but I've worked hard and now I'm back.
