Coutinho in Line for Sevilla Match, Confirms Klopp

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Philippe Coutinho's absence against Manchester City had nothing to do with the striker's off-season link to Barcelona.

Coutinho missed Liverpool's opening league fixtures and their Champions League qualifiers due to a back injury but featured in Brazil's 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.

The Reds were defeated 5-0 at the Etihad on Saturday after Sadio Mane was shown a red card for a unsafe tackle on City goalkeeper Ederson shortly before half-time.

Fellow keeper Mignolet said: "I've had it before when you have to jump into people's feet - and you have to be courageous. He came back from a long flight, after two substitute appearances and three weeks without training", Klopp said in his pre-Sevilla press conference.

Senegal global Mane, who will serve a three-match domestic ban after receiving a direct red, is likely to feature in the mid-week game while Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho could make his first start of the campaign.

The Brazilian netted 13 times last term and registered the highest number of shots by any Liverpool player - 59 - and maintained a shot accuracy of 55% while also completing a pass accuracy of 84%. "I think he is doing it the right way and taking his time with it".

LIVERPOOL had to take the play-off route into the Champions League group stages.

"Sometimes it's impossible after the global break - different plans, different positions, they played all over the world, I don't like this but we can not change it - but you saw City struggled also a little bit".

"We thought it best to give him three or four days proper training and then he'll be available for us, which is very good news", continued Klopp.
