Increased optimism Odell Beckham will play vs. Cowboys

The Giants' defensive line was built to compete against the Cowboys' offensive line. He also had just three less receptions than the next two guys on his team combined. Beckham is a game changer and can tilt the scales in favor of the Giants on any given play. They will be playing their NFC East nemesis in the Dallas Cowboys in primetime at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Beckham and the Giants have been closely guarding his status since he sprained his left ankle on a low hit by Cleveland cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun in an August 21 preseason game. Those matchups were decided by a combined score of four points, but the Giants' second victory snapped the Cowboys' 11-game winning streak. Newly acquired Brandon Marshall will slot into the No. 1 spot while Sterling Shepard and rookie tight end Evan Engram would be expected to see a bump in targets. Returning the core of the No. 2 scoring defense from a year ago, the Giants remained just as dominant in the preseason, highlighted by a trio of pick-sixes. They have an elite secondary with Eli Apple, Janoris Jenkins, Landon Collinns and Darian Thompson and a decent set of linebackers led by Jonathan Casillas. Against the Giants in 2016, specifically the Week 14 game, they didn't maintain a commitment to the run despite remaining close on the scoreboard. Dak Prescott lit the league on fire as a rookie, taking advantage of Tony Romo's latest (and, it turned out, final) injury to start all 16 games for the NFC's No. 1-seeded team.

If you're just learning about my man crush on Dak Prescott, all I can say is, welcome to the site.

The questions for Dallas are all on defense. How is Jason Witten still in the NFL? Pretty much their entire pass rush has been suspended for some, most or all of the season. While every member of the Giants who is back following last season's disappointing playoff loss to Green Bay is hungry to earn another shot in the tournament, Beckham's internal drive has been burning since one of the worst nights of his otherwise fantastic football life.
