Columbus high school shooting suspect ID'd as 18-year-old student

Police did not say whether the suspect was a student.

Shots were fired on Friday at a Columbus, Ohio, school, prompting a brief lockdown before an 18-year-old student was calmed down by a staff member and arrested by police without injuring anyone, police said.

Police did not explain what Abdullahi's motive was.

The entire incident was over within minutes, however, thanks to the actions of a school employee, police said.




Police arrested Abdullahi just before 8:58am without incident. "Ian's been to a lot of schools but for the things that he deals with Columbus Scioto is the most safe and trusted", Addis said. The students were transported not to Linmoor Ed Center on Hamilton Road where teachers and counselors were available.

They add a gun was taken and no one was hurt.

The school serves grades six through 12, and is geared toward special needs and "emotionally disturbed students", according to Scioto school's website. "Excellent job by our officers!"

Officers made the arrest at 8:58 a.m. Officers continue to search the building as a precaution, but the suspect is in police custody.
