Manchester City brand comments from LaLiga president Tebas 'pure fiction'

The Spanish football league, La Liga, has asked European football's governing body UEFA to open an investigation into whether big-spending Manchester City have breached Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

The 55-year-old, who has run La Liga since 2013, explained he has no problem with Abu Dhabi, Qatar or any other state deciding it wants to buy a football club, as long as they play fair.

"Manchester City paid almost £900m, PSG £868m for transfers, If we don't control the situation the whole industry will become destructured".

The president of La Liga insinuated that the club manager by Pep Guardiola modified the value of the players loaned to Girona in order not to break financial rules.

"By contrast, Mr Tebas' statements are ill-informed and in parts pure fiction".

'As you would expect, Manchester City and the City Football Group are seeking appropriate legal counsel and will act accordingly on that advice'.

"They put the players on the books for a certain amount of money and we didn't believe it was a real enough money in terms of their salaries, so we made them put them on the books for a higher amount".

Manchester City also spent heavily in the last transfer window, lavishing an estimated £221 million (242 million euros, $288 million) on players although they offloaded several too. City loaned five players to Girona: Douglas Luiz, Marlos Moreno, Aleix García, Pablo Maffeo, and Olarenwaju Kayode.

A City spokeswoman suggested legal action could be upcoming, saying, "We note the public comments made by Mr. Tebas today and earlier this week".

Tebas is understood to have already called on UEFA to investigate City for alleged financial doping however, the governing body now has no plans to launch an enquiry.

"I need more money from TV, otherwise Manchester City with its oil will take all these players", Tebas, head of Spain's top flight, said at the Soccerex conference in Manchester on Wednesday.

"These unworthy remarks do not live up to an institution as respectable and efficient as LaLiga", said the LFP in a statement. "The transfers are merely the result of years of financial doping at PSG".
