Instagram is testing direct 'Stories' sharing to Facebook

The social media giant has even added new features to the stories option, placed it prominently on the top of the news feed and also announced to bring the feature to desktops.

Facebook is reportedly testing a feature that enables Instagram users to share their Stories directly to the social network.

Facebook first introduced Instagram Stories in the summer of 2016 as a direct attack on Snapchat's identically-named format, which shows photos and videos shared in chronological order for 24 hours.

The Stories feature, which is a copy of the Snapchat feature, was added to Instagram in August 2016. This was followed by Instagram confirming that this feature is now being tested.

"We are always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and make it easier to share any moment with the people who matter to you", an Instagram spokesperson told Business Insider. "We have no other plans to share at this time", an Instagram spokesperson said in an official statement, as per Mashable. At the time, it wasn't clear how many people are able to take part in this test, but Instagram did confirm that it was real. Perhaps when the company integrated the feature into Instagram then later ported it to Facebook, Messenger, and even WhatsApp, its hope was for everyone to start using it regardless from which app. Stories are so unpopular on Facebook that the company chose to place grayed-out icons of user's friends to populate the Stories section of the app, as pointed out by The Verge.

No one not now working for the Facebook Marketing department is using Facebook Stories, but the firm would like to change that by piggy backing onto a service that users do use-Instagram. Both Apps have traditionally kept separate from the beginning.

The Verge calls the test quite sad and desperate, as if Facebook is doing everything it can to goad audiences into using Stories on its own platform.
