Why only Hamid Ansari, PM Modi too should quote Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

A key member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet, Naidu has served as the Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting in the Modi government while he has also served as the Union Minister for Rural Development in Atal Bihar Vajpayee government. If you and I are standing together, then we can move together.

PM Modi underlined that in contrast the last 10 years must have been different for Hamid Ansari as he had to go by the boundaries set by the Constitution.

With a call to fight intolerance and attacks on minorities, Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari said goodbye today after ending his second consecutive five-year term. "There may have been some struggle within you [all these years], but from now onwards, you will not have to face this dilemma".

Referring to Ansari's career, Modi said his tenure as a career diplomat was focussed on West Asia and he had been associated with the "same kind of atmosphere, same kind of ideology and same kind of people".

In his last interview on Wednesday, before demitting the office, Ansari had said that the Muslims in the country were experiencing a "feeling of unease". He is the grand nephew of freedom fighter and former Congress president Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari.

Yesterday, Naidu took on Ansari over his remarks that there was unease and a sense of insecurity among minorities across the country.

"We will always have memories of you as the Chair and how you lent dignity to the quality of debates in this House while presiding over it", said Jaitley.

He brought order in the House enabling the government to complete its business and such decisions could help others to understand how to improve its functioning, Modi said at a farewell function in honour of the vice president in Parliament House complex.

Responding to a question on comments made by some BJP leaders related to minorities, he said he would not talk about political people or political parties.

President Ram Nath Kovind administered him the oath of office and secrecy at Rashtrapati Bhavan here.

Ansari has been in the firing line of the other BJP leaders for his "Muslim comments". Ansari also said he shared the view of many that intolerance was growing.

"Honorable Prime Minister has asserted time and again that he will protect the minorities, but the words haven't been filtered into action as yet", he said.

He also praised the Chairman for his reforms in the procedures of the Rajya Sabha saying they had great impact.
