Benitez admits he is 'not happy' with Newcastle's transfer business so far

Former Liverpool boss Benitez has endured of hard summer, having been frustrated in his attempts to bolster a squad that won The Championship last season.

The 21-year-old was sent home from Chelsea's pre-season tour of China after he made negative comments about the country on his Instagram account.

It's nearly certain Perez will leave this summer and Deportivo looks the most likely option, although Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez has admitted he is interested.

Colback, who has two years remaining on his current deal with the Magpies, is likely to attract interest from a number of Championship sides, although his wages - thought to be around £35,000 a week - could prove prohibitive in any deal.

A striker is a high priority this summer but Chelsea's Tammy Abraham preferred Swansea City to the north east while Arsenal forward Lucas Perez would rather return to Spain, with a move back to Deportivo on the cards.

"It is very hard because the prices are insane", he said.

'I am not happy [with transfer dealings] but for me it is a challenge, ' Benitez told Sky Sports.

"This is a very hard negotiation but if I didn't think there was a chance I would say so".

"I don't think he will be prepared to manage a team that is treading water in the Premier League. We have to be sure the player is good enough for what we are looking for".

Owner Mike Ashley had promised Benitez "every last penny" to improve the squad, but fans are unhappy at how little has been done.

"I am trying to do my best right now. It is something you cannot control but at the moment I am fully committed to doing the best that I can".
