Tonight's Full Moon Starts the Countdown to the Total Solar Eclipse

South Jersey should get a glimpse at the solar eclipse around 2:30 p.m.

Dr. Alex Young of NASA said, "The moon, sun, and earth will line up just perfectly so the moon will come between the earth and the sun and cast its shadow down onto the United States".

The full moon on August 7 is associated with a couple of cool things, namely, it begins the denouement of this moon that will result in the new moon that coincides with the total solar eclipse on August 21. An interesting aspect of lunar eclipse is that everywhere on a earth from where the moon is visible during eclipse, the time will be the same. This can occur only when the sun, Earth, and moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. "Only part of the Moon comes under the Earth's shadow, and looks darker".

"There's enough light that gets around, even with 97 percent of totality, that can damage, burn the retina in the back of the eye", Dr. David Ross said. Hence, they appear at about the same sight in the Earth's skies.

But in Flower Mound, while it won't be a total eclipse, you will be able to see the moon cover up most of the sun.

What's rare about eclipses is not when they happen, but where.

In Lincoln, Neb., the launch of Hope City, a North American Mission Board church plant, is set to correspond with the eclipse. And even if you aren't in position to see it yourself, you can watch the spectacle via a livestream.

Family friendly solar eclipse parties take place Monday, August 21, from noon to 4 p.m.at the Aberdeen, Abingdon, Edgewood, Havre de Grace, Joppa, Norrisville and Whiteford libraries.

This scene will pass over the United States, from OR to SC, potentially capturing an audience even larger than the Super Bowl.

Over the next hour and a half, it will cross through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and North and SC.

This is the last visible total solar eclipse until 2024. "My suggestion is to travel as close to the totality path as possible, but plan ahead as traffic and parking may be your biggest challenge".

-What causes an eclipse to occur?

The lighting will begin to change as if nighttime is occurring in the middle of the day.
