Barcelona don't fear Sergi Roberto move amid Utd, Chelsea links

According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Monaco have joined Premier league heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign Sergi Roberto.

Roberto played in defence for much of last season after the club failed to replace Dani Alves but after the singing of Nelson Semedo is expected to move back into midfield. "Chelsea and Monaco are weighing up offers", reports Sky Sports.

The youngster made 47 appearances across all competition in the 2016-17 season and contributed to his team's cause with a goal and 6 assists.

Sergi Roberto surprisingly arrived into the first-team setup as a right-back and established himself, despite being a natural midfielder. However, new manager Ernesto Valverde has already made his intention of reinstating the player's midfield role known.

The Express reported last week that Chelsea are interested while Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho is understood to have been in regular contact with the full-back to discuss a potential move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils are looking for further reinforcements and Sergi Roberto could be an ideal player with the ability to play both as a midfielder and now as a right-back as well.

United are said to be rivaling Chelsea for the Spaniard's signature as they look to add the finishing touches to their squad ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

The player's entourage have insisted that Roberto wants to continue at Barcelona, but have also indicated that anything could happen from now until the end of the summer window.
