Afghan policeman shot dead before attacking North Atlantic Treaty Organisation forces in Kandahar

A suicide attack in Afghanistan on Thursday killed one Georgian soldier and wounded two American servicemembers, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation officials said. "The Taliban are the enemy of the Afghan people".

Gen. John Nicholson, the top US commander in Afghanistan, has ordered the new procedure in releasing casualty tolls, prompting criticism of giving the public less information and transparency.

Claiming responsibility for the attack, Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said in a tweet that eight foreign forces had been killed or injured in the attack.

The military said the wounded are in stable condition receiving treatment at the US military hospital at Bagram Air Base, also north of Kabul.

Prior to those attacks, two Romanian special forces troops were killed and another wounded in May 2016 when a local Afghan policeman opened fire on them.

"After seven days of heavy fight, Afghan security forces managed to take control of Jani Khel early on Friday morning", the spokesman for Paktia's governnment, Abdullah Hasrat, told dpa.

Expressing his condolences to the families of last week's Taliban attack in Kabul on a bus carrying employees of the ministry of mines and petroleum, Ghani said that the government was investigating the incident and would soon identify those who planned the attack.

On Wednesday an attack in Kandahar killed two U.S. Army soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division.

According to the statement, one Romanian soldier, as well as one Afghan police officer were injured and sent to medical facilities.

Thursday's attack came one day after a Taliban vehicle bombing killed the two USA soldiers and wounded four others outside the country's second-largest military base in southern Kandahar province.

The audacity of Tuesday evening's attack, barely 50 meters (150 feet) from a police station, set off protests the following day.
