As investigation intensifies, Trump crows to crowd

Two sources told Reuters of the move on Thursday, saying it was more proof that Mueller's investigation into Russia's meddling in last year's election was picking up speed.

"'They're going to say, 'Who's going to pay for the wall, Mr President?"

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Grand Jury was convened several weeks ago. Numerous potential crimes Mueller's team is investigating would have occurred in the District, such as allegations that Trump aides or advisers made false statements in disclosure records or lied to federal agents. In the United States, they are normally made up of about 16 to 23 members of the public rather than the usual 12, hence "grand" jury. The grand jury is separate from one being used in Alexandria, Virginia to gather information on former national security adviser Michael Flynn. After issuing subpoenas and taking testimony from witnesses, grand juries have only one other thing they can do: issue indictments.

Rather than staying quieter as the special counsel investigation gets more serious, Trump seems likely to head in the other direction - growing increasingly outspoken about the problems he sees with it.

"I just hope the final determination is a truly honest one, which is what the millions of people who gave us our big win in November deserve and what all Americans who want a better future want and deserve", Trump told thousands of cheering, sign-waving supporters packed into an arena in Huntington.

Also, getting lost once again in the "Russia" panic, as we explained on yesterday's show, there is a good reason Bernie Sanders voted against the bill slapping sanctions against Russia, North Korea and Iran, as approved nearly unanimously in both chambers of Congress, and signed reluctantly by the President on Wednesday.

There were no Russians in our campaign.

But the news of West Virginia's governor switching parties seemed buried beneath all the Washington frenzy over the impaneling of a federal grand jury.

A Washington grand jury is said to be among the resources special counsel Robert Mueller is using in the investigation into potential coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. They'll face voters back home who have cause for frustration about an unproductive Congress led by a party given over to infighting. The White House has every interest in bringing this to a prompt and fair conclusion.

Having spent many years in law enforcement, a lot of them as a prosecutor, I can attest that criminal investigators are presumptuous.

While Ty Cobb, special counsel to the president, also said he did not know that Mueller had called a grand jury, he stressed the White House would comply with the federal investigation. "As we've said in the past, we're committed to cooperating fully with Mr. Mueller". How will Trump react to the grand jury? "I just hope that if the police ever do arrest him they protect his head when they put him into the auto". "Last night I believe he called it a fabrication".
